Eating our way through Hurricane Irene

In anticipation of Hurricane Irene this past weekend, everyone seems to have stocked up on water, food, and booze. We didn't really do much to prepare...moved some patio furniture inside, but that was about it. Luckily for us, we didn't lose any power, but there still didn't seem to be much to do but eat...even when I wasn't hungry. So here's a summary of the food consumed this weekend:

"breakfast" at 12 pm...(I had only just woken up around 11:20)
Ramen lunch, complete with egg and string cheese at 3 pm
we had a craving for cake...we also had some angel cake food mix...thank you Duncan Hines! It was a PIECE OF CAKE! hah, pun...
Voila! Found myself struggling a little bit to remove the cake from the pan...

But it worked! perfection! Love spring form pans!
I spy a little rat sneaking a piece of cake...

Final product complete with sliced bananas, mini chocolate chips (there were also regular chocolate chips inside the cake), drizzled with toasted hazelnut bits and condensed milk

We also ended up throwing together a Hurricane dinner for some friends who still didn't have power:

10 eggs + a bunch of tomatoes from our garden = ...
one of my fav dishes - egg and tomatoes!
flowers from our garden
flowers plus chicken
 big fan of garlic...plus veggies
blanching some asparagus to go with wasabi mayo
final food spread
punch/sangria
and then the sun came out? mother nature sure is bizarre...
Final thoughts on the weekend - I am easily bored if I'm not working and I "feel" like I'm trapped in the house. When I'm bored, I am hungry even more than I usually am...a most dangerous combination. So please Mother Nature, no more hurricanes. Thanks.
